Bioactivity:
Demeclocycline is a semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic from Streptomyces aureofaciens strain. Demeclocycline binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and prevents aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the mRNA-ribosome complex, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. Demeclocycline can also inhibit the effect of vasopressin on the renal tubules, thereby causing diuresis.
