Long Description:
Recombinant Antibody. This antibody reacts to human Calretinin. It may also react to mouse or rat Calretinin, as predicted by immunogen homology. Applications: WB, IHC. Source: Rabbit. Liquid. 50% Glycerol/PBS with 1% BSA and 0.09% sodium azide. Calretinin, also known as calbindin 2 (formerly 29 kDa calbindin), is a calcium-binding protein involved in calcium signaling. It is a troponin C superfamily protein having six EF-hand structural motifs. The EF motif allows the protein to bind calcium, and function in calcium signaling, calcium buffering, modulating neuronal excitability and message targeting. Calretinin is abundantly expressed in neurons including retina and cortical interneurons. Expression was found in different neurons than of the similar vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein, calbindin-28kDa. Loss of expression of calretinin in hippocampal interneurons has been suggested to be relevant in temporal lobe epilepsy. Calretinin is a diagnostic marker for some human diseases, including Hirschsprung disease and some cancers.
