It has anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the NF-kappaB and MAPK pathways and neuroprotective properties. Ononin inhibits LPS-induced production of nitrite, prostaglandin E2 and the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1beta, IL-6, and TNF-alpha by RAW 264.7 macrophages. It also inhibits glutamate-induced toxicity in rat adrenal PC12 cells.
