Long Description:
Chemical. CAS: 83-49-8. Formula: C24H40O4. MW: 392.57. Hyodeoxycholic acid is a secondary bile acid. It is produced from lithocholic acid by bacterial action in the colon. Dietary supplementation with HDCA results in decreased plasma VLDL and LDL cholesterol and reduced atherosclerosis in mice. Serum levels of HDCA are increased significantly in Crohn?s disease and ulcerative colitis. Hyodeoxycholic acid can be used as a building block/precursor for steroid synthesis.
