Long Description:
Osteoprotegerin (OPG), also known as TNFRSF11B, is a cytokine and member of the TNF receptor superfamily that is expressed in a wide variety of tissues including adult heart, lung, kidney, liver, spleen, prostate, lymph node and bone marrow. OPG is an osteoblast-secreted decoy receptor that functions as a negative regulator of bone resorption.1 It specifically binds to its ligand, osteoprotegerin ligand (OPGL), which is a key extracellular regulator of osteoclast development. Therefore, OPG may provide a pharmacological tool for osteoporotic and erosive bone disorders.
