Background:
Insulin is one of the major regulatory hormones of carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism throughout the body. Insulin enhances membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions. It also decreases blood sugar levels and promotes glycogen storage, formation of triglycerides and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Deficiency of insulin results in diabetes mellitus, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Insulin is a 5.8 kDa polypeptide composed of an A chain (21 amino acids) and a B chain (30 amino acids) connected by disulfide bonds. Immunocytochemical studies have localized insulin in the B cells of pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Antibodies to insulin are important as B?cell and tumor markers of the pancreas such as insulinomas or islet cell tumors.

Source:
This antibody was purified from hybridoma
(clone 1C5A) supernatant using protein A agarose. This
hybridoma was established by fusion of mouse myeloma
cell P3U1 with Balb/c mouse splenocyte immunized with
the recombinant human Insulin.
