Background:
Paraspeckle is one of newly identified subnuclear bodies consists of RNAs and RNA-binding proteins. SFPQ, also known as PSF, is a core component of paraspeckle and belongs to DBHS protein family. SFPQ forms heteromer by binding to other DHBS protein family, such as p54/NONO, and participates in mRNA splicing and transcriptional regulation in the nucleus. In Alzheimer's and Pick's diseases known as tauopathy, SFPQ is accumulated in cytoplasm in neurons and astrocytes. Altered localization of SFPQ together with tau mutation may be involved in pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.
