Further Information

Additional Names:
HBGF-5, Smag-82, Fibroblast growth factor 5, Heparin-binding growth factor 5, FGF-5
Background:
FGF-5 is a secreted heparin binding growth factor that belongs to the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-5 binds to FGFR 1c and 2c, and plays a regulatory role in the hair growth cycle. Recombinant human FGF-5 is a 27.6 kDa protein consisting of 252 amino acid residues.
Biological Activity:
Determined by dose-dependent ability to reduce tetrazolium salt, WST-8, by dehydrogenase activities of BaF3 cells expressing FGF receptors using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). The expected ED50 is < 0.5 ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of > 2 x 10^6 units/mg.
