Background:
UDP-glucuronate decarboxylase (UGD; EC 4.1.1.35) catalyzes
the formation of UDP-xylose from UDP-glucuronate. UDP-xylose is
then used to initiate glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis on the core
protein of proteoglycans.
